EXTRUDING ALUMINIUM PROFILES
The process of extrusion is that which creates the specific shape of metal tube, or ‘profile’ required. This is made possible by the natural malleability of aluminium as an element. When the aluminium logs are heated they become easier to shape. With lubrication and a great deal of pressure the aluminium is driven through a die, which is cut to shape the metal.
This die dictates the final form of the tube or profile, and is specially created to each order, to ensure that the finished outcome is what is needed for the task at hand. Intricate details can be created using this method, although often the simpler ‘box section’ shape is all that’s required.
With the lubricant to prevent sticking and friction as the metal is forced through the die, the final piece emerges as a long consistent stretch of aluminium. The metal is then cooled, cut into the necessary measurements of length for the job and then artificially aged by a reheating process.
